Sugar Poem by Matthew Hall

Sugar

My broken heart still freely smiles
Through countless days and endless miles
But dead between adoring whiles.

My only heart abides the pain
Of ragged scars torn wide again
Each time i hear a sweet refrain.

My healing heart depends on 'could'
In spite of me it always would
Keep faith and hope when understood.

My hungry heart believes in 'might'
Though beaten, bruised and short of sight
Needs only love and life and light.

My human heart cries out for who
Would age with me and yet be new
As dawn is daily blessed with dew.

My need is great, my word is true
I give my fragile heart to you
Come home to me, and say you do.
