Flames Of Hope

The flames frolic
Mesmerizing, hot, acrid
dance with me, they say
So mesmerizing that I fail to notice
The angry heat that consumes
The smoldering flame of violence that incinerates lives
and rights
and senses
Choking on the smoke of suffering, until I don't smell it anymore.
My eyes water until I can no longer see the beauty of the colors.
Yet the sweat that trickles down the back of my neck
The breath that gets caught in my throat
Ignites
Kindles
Burns
Awakens
A different kind of heat
A belly burn
A heart burn
A deep burn of passion
A flare of compassion
That connects me once again with the rhythm of the dance.
So that my blistered senses become healing actions
And the fire that burns becomes a blaze of
Rebirth
Re-creation
A Phoenix
A seed
A frolicking flame of hope.
