Michael Achile Umameh Poems

I ATE THE SUN
I am.
My mother's feminine face of God
She bled.

Feet of Knives
When the drab drum of winter
dies of the weight of warmth
spring's dewy fingers;

We will remember Biafra
We will not forget Biafra
Stillborn son of fury
Promised half of the rising golden sun.
...

O, supreme someone
So alluring, so annoying
My mystical impulse desires to see you
And I know you are there
...

Father, when I left, I really had no idea where I was going
I really did not see the road ahead of me

I Ate The Sun

I ATE THE SUN
I am.
My mother's feminine face of God
She bled.
She bled. And I am.
Unspeakable joy
In the thousand tickling fingers of wind
Hideous strength
In the river of hidden lives beneath the ice
Deep gladness
In the footprint of nurture's fires
Compass rose
In the labyrinth of my turbulent inner Ocean.
In the starving nights of years
She fed me the sun
Am I glowing?
