Michael John Cook Poems

I know your heart has been broken,
I witnessed the pain in your eyes,
I was there as you cried for them,
Those images memorised,
...

Incarcerated by despair,
The wild running hare,
Who's homeland is now bare,
Destruction everywhere
...

What makes an angel of her?
Is it her kindness?
The way she drifts from one thought to another?
As a bounding dear skips through a wood
...

Love you, I said
Cowardly in its tone
Rushed from my lips
To mask it's true weight
...

'Poor blighter' I muttered presumptuously,
As I found myself staring at him.
From several rows behind,
I was passing judgement.
...

Not in this bottle
Now empty and of no use
I'll drink till I find it
Or at least that's my excuse
...

Not a dry eye in the house,
His words had echoed loudly,
The audience held in his grasp,
He had executed to perfection,
...

To the future,
He toasted,
Full of hope,
Not just his own,
...

Please tell me that I am not sleeping,
Yet if I am then do not wake me,
As this moment must not be lost,
For here and now I must remain,
...

What a dream to awaken from,
No thought, other than of it, to mind,
Although now arisen from my slumber,
Still consumed by its dense reality,
...

A feeling on which one cannot act
Can be nothing more than cruel
To want to break an unspoken pact
To shatter an unwritten rule
...

I can close my eyes
But sleep may not ensue
I am thinking of someone
Do you wish it was you?
...

Quietly outspoken
Scarily assuring
Sadly uplifting
Infectiously curing
...

The blood of those whom for England died,
Runs through these veins still full with pride,
Invaders may come but leave with the tide,
As we protect our shores, standing tall, side by side
...

A beautiful stare
Wondering not judging
Give her a smile
She takes it all in
...

If I stopped concentrating
Even for a second
I think I would break down
Is it tiredness,
...

Finally captured
Now awaiting his trial
Waves of relief
First good sleep in a while
...

One more glass of whiskey,
Downed and another poured
Pacing back and forth,
Nervously across the floor
...

I did not sleep a wink,
You were on my mind,
I was teetering on the brink,
Struggling to unwind,
...

Oh tired eyes, blink again;
The rest you require,
Will not long be found,
Yet without your sight all is lost.
...

Michael John Cook Biography

I am a blue collar guy from humble beginnings. I always loved English lessons at school and loved writing songs or poems. I have only recently taken it up again and feel so much more complete now that I am doing what I love in my free time. I come from the very cultural and laid back City of a Bristol where there is inspiration all around. I hope you enjoy reading some of my work and eagerly await any feedback. A gloomy poem does not a gloomy soul represent!)

Your Broken Heart

I know your heart has been broken,
I witnessed the pain in your eyes,
I was there as you cried for them,
Those images memorised,
My heart broke as yours did again,
As he made his final mistake,
I feared that your heart, barely healed,
Could yet another break take,
I listened to all of your words,
Kept my self in the right frame of mind,
Was the friend you needed me to be,
Hurting inside all that time,
It pained me to see you so lost,
Not the beautiful girl you should be,
I prayed you would find your way,
Never abused the faith you put in me,
I hoped you could sense my love,
Also feared I might scare you away,
As I know you cherish our friendship,
As do I, please let me just say,
If you only knew how much I'd give,
For a second could feel how i do,
My friend, how much love I have,
And every inch of it for you
