Michele Burstein Poems

No longer cry
It will not be - it cannot be
No door to enter, safe and quiet,
No curtained depths of comfort and protection
...

The stark appeal of ancient trees
Unleaved in winter sleep
The timeless night, the star-kissed dome
Is winter dark and deep.
...

On rampart
Silence
Throbs.
Tight-skinned drum

Sanctuary

No longer cry
It will not be - it cannot be
No door to enter, safe and quiet,
No curtained depths of comfort and protection
No restful bed where you may sleep away your fears.
Your anxious hands clutch at folds of dust,
Hopes fail - Do not cross the portal
I will not be - it cannot be
No longer cry
Sanctuary.
