Sanctuary Poem by Michele Burstein

Sanctuary

No longer cry
It will not be - it cannot be
No door to enter, safe and quiet,
No curtained depths of comfort and protection
No restful bed where you may sleep away your fears.
Your anxious hands clutch at folds of dust,
Hopes fail - Do not cross the portal
I will not be - it cannot be
No longer cry
Sanctuary.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is linked to a novel I am writing. It is a character's gradual loss of everything that once made her world secure. (The novel is 'The Dark') .
