And strolled across the green
Such grace, such pride, such dignity

My Secret Place

The creek rippled down the layered rocks
And rested in the pool below
Stirred cooly by the rainbow trout
As they slowly swam to and fro.
Long fronds of fern, bowing from the bank
Reflected green shadows from the pool
And the blue sky smiled down from above
As tho enjoying the peaceful cool.
This was my most peaceful place
When I was a little girl---
I would go there just to be alone
And watch the ripples whirl.
Sometimes I would just sit and pout
When every thing seemed to go wrong.
Or just dream sweet dreams
In the warm-warm summer's morn.
Many years have come and gone
Since I've seen this little brook.
Now only in memories do I visit again
My secret place by the brook.
