here, in this place where no one even knows my state.
I felt a strange mixture of recognition and homesickness.

the silence kills off
my brain cells
the lack of movement

We were married once,
you and I
for many years

Here, the roaches
climb the walls
here, the rugs
are old & sullied
...

Is it raining outside
like it's raining in here?
do the storm clouds loom
does the thunder roll
...

I stood so close to the painting
observing incarnate beauty in the creator's
mottled paint strokes and lush use of color
absorbed the imperfections, as perfection itself
