Ntsikelelo Ndlovu Poems

Chained up! No escape!
I walk up and down in this box, alone.
Trapped by the injustices of society,
The prejudice, the words,
...

Betrayed
Where I hoped to find comfort.
Abandoned
Where I hoped to find shelter.

The Cry For Freedom

Chained up! No escape!
I walk up and down in this box, alone.
Trapped by the injustices of society,
The prejudice, the words,
I cry, cry for freedom.

I am lost, in my own mind,
Engulfed by the fire of my own imagination.
I put pen to paper – I write
Useless words, meaningless and empty,
I cry, cry for freedom.

I try running away, but I can’t.
I look around, there is no way out;
I am trapped, trapped forever,
I cry, cry for freedom.

I am trapped in this small box – no light.
I scream and shout – no answer.
I am alone, all alone
I cry, cry for freedom.

I touch, feel – nothing.
I realise that there is nothing – emptiness reigns.
I am lost, alone, chained up forever and ever,
And still I cry, cry for freedom.
