I am sometimes a stone
that's been carved out of rock:
So unyielding, so proud and secure.
I'm the trumpet and drum -

A walk along a cliff
That was your life
Life on the edge

Always Me

I am sometimes a stone
that's been carved out of rock:
So unyielding, so proud and secure.
I'm the trumpet and drum -
and a blessing to some.
but at times I'm the curse
and the cure.

I am an outcast bird
in perpetual flight,
never knowing to where I am bound.
I'm a word in your mind
that cannot be defined
but speaks volumes without a sound.

I am the tumultuous wind on a dark winter's night
locked in war with the waves and the sea.
I'm the ice and the flame
I am wild and untamed,
But remember:
it's still always me.

I am a fighter for peace in my solitary court,
seeking justice against all the odds.
I am often a judge
with an axe and a grudge,
I am the advocate facing the gods.

I am a tune from the past that is sung on a string
pizzicato or soft semi-tones.
I am gentle and firm - a contradiction in terms.
An equation with many unknowns.

I am often a smile that pretends to forget
all the lies, the deception and pain.
I'm the seas that I've wept
And the secrets I've kept.
I'm the love that dared not speak its name.

I am sometimes a house
or an Englishman's home;
a castle that's locked under key.
I change colour and name,
I am never the same.
But remember:
it's still always me.
