though the traditional karkkidakam has changed, Nair Ji's poem revives memories. Thanks Rajendran Ji
What a fantastic write! I am simply spell bound! The pouring rain and the lilts of the Ramayana recital add such a piety to the wet month of Karkitakam. Mostly the women folk sit around lighted 'Nilavilakku' to recite Rama hyms and thus renew their spiritual journey. You have captured the full solemnity of this age old practice and you sing of the glory of 'Malayala naadu' like a proud son!
Immense thanks. I am very happy you liked the poem written in traditional manner in this newage of maverick prose. That shows your great, generous mind.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
The poem reminds me of my mother reading Ramayanam during Karkitakam, in a beautiful style and music, we children sitting listening. She would complete the entire book in the month. But now you have readymade Ramayanam, in CD. Similarly, everyday at dusk, after a dip in the temple pond and a smear of ash on the forehead, my father used to read a part from Srimad Bhagavatham, again by Thunjath Ezhuthacchan. The second stanza reminded me of him. Thank you.
