1 5 Of 5 Poem by Edith Niemeyer

1 5 Of 5

[Verse 1]

She wears the sunset in her hair
And yesterday within her eyes
She learned that wings were made for flying
Not for hiding from the sky
There's a softness in her laughter
But don't mistake it for surrender
She's walked barefoot through the fire
And came out stronger than they remember

[Chorus]

She wears her freedom well
Like a story only time can tell
With an eagle standing by her side
And a restless spirit she won't hide
She's known heaven, she's known hell
She's heard the sound of goodbye bells
But no chain can hold a heart
That finally learned to free itself
Oh, she wears her freedom well

[Verse 2]

There were hands that tried to hold her
There were words that cut her deep
There were promises made forever
That forever couldn't keep
But every scar became a feather
Every tear became the rain
And the woman they tried breaking
Learned to rise above the pain

[Chorus]

She wears her freedom well
Like a story only time can tell
With an eagle standing by her side
And a restless spirit she won't hide
She's known heaven, she's known hell
She's heard the sound of goodbye bells
But no chain can hold a heart
That finally learned to free itself
Oh, she wears her freedom well.

[Bridge]

She doesn't need a crown of gold
To know the kingdom that she owns
She doesn't need somebody's hand
To prove that she can stand alone
And when that eagle spreads his wings
Across that amber evening sky
She smiles because she understands—
Some things were simply born to fly.

[Final Chorus]

She wears her freedom well
There ain't a cage that she can't tell
To open up and let her through
She paid the price for every truth
She's known heaven, she's known hell
And lived through things she'll never tell
Still she stands beneath that sky
With enough courage left to fly
No, you'll never own her soul
You'll never make her freedom sell
She knows exactly who she is…

And she wears

her freedom

well.
