101. Orphan Poem by Dipankar Sadhukhan

101. Orphan

Rating: 5.0

I am an orphan
Only of seven years.
Nobody is like me.

From dawn to dusk,
From evening to morn-
Every time I am free -
Free to play, free to eat,
Free to read and free to sleep.

Just to spend
Every second
Every morning I start
For a unknown path.

Everyday I see
News girls and boys
Going to school
With smiling face.

Since my birth
I have been a orphan.
A terrible disease
Called AIDS
Ended the life
Of my step dad.

Now I am alone
But not feeling loneliness
As hunger and suffering,
Agony and pain
Are with me every time.

Different people
Everyday I see.
Some sympathize with me,
Some mock at me,
Some throw coins towards me,
Some rebuke me.

In the evening
When darkness comes,
My eyes wake
But mind dreams.
In this way
I spend my life.

I don't know
When the time will come
To end my suffering and pain
And the haunting moments.

But I know
I must return there
To meet Him
As I came on this earth.
