#269 What Will Be Left Then? Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#269 What Will Be Left Then?

And when it’s all said and done,
Which direction will I be facing?
When it all comes falling down,
Which steps will need retracing?

When the dust finally settles,
Where will I be standing?
When I reach rock bottom,
Will I survive the crash landing?

When all the pain has disappeared,
When will it begin again?
When the cookie’s finished crumbling,
What will be left then?

When I find that I am lost,
Which road will I take?
When I’m sure that I’m unsure,
Which way is the mistake?

When your suitcase is prepped and packed,
Will I have strength to close the door?
When your taillights have disappeared,
Will I try to get off the floor?

When the story nears the end,
Who will be my heroine?
When the purple curtains close,
Will I still fear the villain?
