#302 Vexed And Perplexed

And after the next step I take,
Where then will my foot land?
It doesn’t matter, I won’t be awake
To be fooled or to misunderstand.

My steady hand wears a solid glove
But I pulled it off too fast.
Why do I even bother with love
When it never seems to last?

When words are sharper than razors
And blazing fires are colder than ice.
Under the eye of constant appraisers,
I’m devoid of auspicious advice.

Called “perfect” at first, then told goodbye,
Guess I proved that theory wrong.
I blame myself for believing the lie;
My weakness is moving along.

Seems I’m ideal and best for no one,
A great catch to be released.
A banquet made for the setting sun
But none will attempt to feast.

There’s no happy ending written here;
All is as it appears and seems.
The cause is shrill, void and unclear,
I suppose I’m drunk on dreams.

Who knows what is or has been;
Still I’m left vexed and perplexed.
Who knows when we shall meet again,
Whether in this life or the next?
