#308 Past Tense Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#308 Past Tense

Has the beginning seen the end?
Has the album’s last song been played?
Have I made and enemy of a friend?
Have I gone when I should have stayed?

Have murky skies seen the light?
Have the black clouds rained their last?
Has the sun set just for the night?
Has the future changed the past?

Was the snap-shot finally taken?
Did we wear winter clothes that fall?
Now the photograph’s been shaken
But were you ever there at all?

Have I nothing more to say?
Have all my thoughts been used?
Have all the right words slipped away?
Do I appear scarred and bruised?

Have I misplaced my memories?
Have I lost all logic and sense?
Have I caught a fatal disease
Allowing speech only in past tense?
