someone out there
is awake, even in the middle of the night
inside a room
all alone

i know it. i do not see it. i can feel it.
you are with me
one in this, one in this silence, one in this

pressing of keys, without looking at the letters
riding on the memory of our fingertips

someone out there wants to be free, from the walls of his
self-imposed unhappiness

someone out there is asleep, beside someone who is awake
staring at the ceiling, not wanting any light from any bulb

someone out there travels, beyond,
beyond the limitations of dreams, beyond dreams

in chant, repeating, and repeating, hoping to just forget
what is pain in everything.
