A Brightness Poem by Dennis Lange

A Brightness

Across the deep green faces of the cedar fly,
Or flit or flutter with a sudden scarlet flash,
A cardinal, and his much subtler mate - a tie
That binds the two together till their life is ash.
My soul is stirred to watch them wed in work and play,
My world enriched by their united color splash;
For it is rare to be a royal pair this day,
And be together for the long haul, not a dash.
