A Capricious Heart Poem by Sheri Green

A Capricious Heart

Many are the sweet things
My new love gives to me
Daffodils and promise rings
Bestowed so generously

But it is my old love
For which my heart still longs
And I cannot free myself of
That call so very strong

My new love gives me passion
That bids my heart to sing
In a most honorable fashion
He has set my soul to wing

Yet it is my old love
That holds my heart so tight
Caged up like a little dove
That struggles to take flight

How can a heart be so fickle
Leaving me lost as to what to do
To who should I be faithful
The old love or the new?
