A Child's Prayer* Poem by indira babbellapati

A Child's Prayer*

Rating: 3.8

I set out to meet you
Thick black clouds filled
My sky, my dear god
How do I find my way
Across the sky to say
Hi to you and hug you tight?

My Brownie and I
Got out of the house
And there you roared
In laughter and lighted
The sky to show the way
The light lasted a wink;
I wanna see you, dear god.

Mama says, god won't like
Me getting wet in rain
(A secret: She has a long
List of what you don't like
Me doing all the time)
She says you won't hug me
If I had a cold and tucks me
Tight under a blanket

I only hear you roar
I only see you light
Only through the window

I wanna see you, god
I wanna hug you, god
Clear the clouds, quickly
Won't you, my dear god...

Blake's innocence phase is revived by the innocent tone of this your child- you have done justice to the Title and the theme...the most difficult task is to fit into the character of a child, that's why writing Juvenile poetry has never been an easy task even for the greats; George Eliot in The Mill On The Floss did a marvellous job in the depiction of childhood scenes and tone; James Joyce in A portrait of The Artist as a Youngman worked wonders in creating Stephen's character; here i would like to quote a favourite poem of mine for your pleasure read: Songs Of Innocence: Introduction Piping down the valleys wild Piping songs of pleasant glee On a cloud I saw a child. And he laughing said to me. Pipe a song about a Lamb: So I piped with merry chear, Piper, pipe that song again- So I piped, he wept to hear. Drop thy pipe thy happy pipe Sing thy songs of happy chear, So I sung the same again While he wept with joy to hear Piper sit thee down and write In a book that all may read- So he vanished from my sight And I pluck'd a hollow reed. And I made a rural pen, And I stained the water clear, And I wrote my happy songs, Every child may joy to hear. William Blake Great Work Indira ji! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :)
