Jesus,
You were born in a manger O, Lord
Were you more pleased with the Crowned Kings' offerings
Or with the hearty, modest adulations of the shepherds?
We would love to believe most longingly
You would cheer up with greater elan when we sing falteringly
Than when heavenly angels sing spirited rhapsodies pompously
Later, you drove out the adulterers from your Father's temple
The only occasion you flew into fury, the compassionate, the ever gentle
Inspire us with love-lit hope, set us free to live daringly
And resurrect us with power and glory, grant us life abundantly
