A Cross Stands On The Side Of The Road Poem by Lola Romero

A Cross Stands On The Side Of The Road

Rating: 5.0

a cross stands on the side of the road
an old guitar
a few dead flowers
nothing to do, but i sit here for hours... and
hours...and
hours

a cross stands on the side of the road
who's it is, no one knows
except for me
its the only thing left
to mark his death
a smiling child who's life was taken
but i will not let his memory be forsaken

a cross stands on the side of the road
and my tears lie here in the dirt
a dent is left in the big oak tree
its hard to notice, but i can still see
its proof that they were here
its the victim of their fear

a cross stands on the side of the road
and although everyone else went home
i stay behind
to sit beneath the glistening stars
wondering if i am really all alone
ive been here all day
because it seems like he wants me to stay
and so i rest my head against
that evil tree
avoiding broken glass and small debris
motionless i lay and think
inside my sorrow i drown, i sink
my body heavy as a boulder
my heart growing colder and colder
gasping for air
but nothing is there
be strong, be strong, be bold, be smart
but im not ready to let go
im not ready to re-start
dont think that it was all in vain
because if you do, it will just cause more pain

a cross stands on the side of the road
dripping wet from the rain
heaven is crying with me
to keep me company
i look up into the sky
to the stars and the falling tears
i scream up into the sky
hoping with all hope he hears
ive been sitting here all day
because theres just no way
that i can leave without saying goodbye
so somehow i have to try
