A Day In The Sun Poem by Sheena Blackhall

A Day In The Sun

A day in the sun. A couple in an open topped limo
Are enjoying the scene, all smiles, très chic
A wealthy pair, oozing a quiet elegance

The man is wearing a black suit,
White shirt, printed tie,
An invisible back brace. (He has ongoing pain issues)
Kept under cover. Otherwise his looks are poster perfect.

The wife is wearing a double breasted suit
With six gold buttons and four square pockets,
(Two on each side.)
The fabric is a light weight wool from Linton Tweeds
With a weave known as bouclé. The colour is strawberry pink.

She has a wide quilted collar, piping trim on the sleeves,
The buttons on the suit have navy blue piping around the edge.
It is, of course, designed by Chanel.

She turns heads, smart in her silk shell blouse, her pillbox hat,
Her short white kid leather gloves with pearl wrist buttons

They are relaxed, are chatting, when Pow Pow Pow
The day stops. The world holds its breath
The pink suit is splattered with blood,
And John Fitzgerald Kennedy is dying
In the full glare of the sun

Bullets have been fired by a rifle found on a sixth floor.
265.3 feet from the victim

The shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald is wearing a long sleeved, brownish shirt,
Button down front and button wrist cuffs,
A white crew neck tee shirt,
Dark chino casual slacks, dark crew socks,
Black work Oxford shoes.

Hereafter, everyone will look behind the clothes
Examining what lies beneath the surface
