A Democrat's Lifecycle Poem by Sajee Rayaroth

A Democrat's Lifecycle

When I was born
They gave me a number,
When I started to cry
They gave me a name,
When I started to smile
They gave me a religion,
When I started to socialise
They gave me a race,
When I started to misbehave
They taught me ethics and values,
When I started to dream
They gave me coloured flags,
When I started to demand
They gave me promises,
When I started to revolt
They gave me right to vote,
When I wondered why
They told it is 'Democracy',
When I witnessed injustice
They tried to lie,
When I searched for truth
They gave me distorted vision,
When I started to question
They gave me orders to obey,
When I started to react
They called me intolerant,
When I decided to quit
They scribed on my grave:

'Intolerance is an enemy of Democracy'

Now tell me who was intolerant?
