A Difference Poem by bebe alvarado

A Difference

you call us “Americans” and yet that’s not what you think we are
we are judged and discriminated
on our color of our skin
caramel, black, tan, chocolate
even our kind of background
we’re supposed to be a unified nation but we were never a group
A person always said “be with your kind”
but you know what that person was right
everybody assumes that if you’re a Latino or black your ghetto
and
everybody assumes that if you’re white your preppy
this makes everybody conclude that your exactly the same as the people in your group
which is completely the opposite
everybody is unique in their own way
so when someone asks me are we ready for a black president?
I say yes
but what about you?
I want people not to have the same perspective for what we look like
so in the words of Barack 0bama lets make a change
