A Different Kind Of Anniversary Poem by Louva Leslie Merrill

A Different Kind Of Anniversary

Thirty years ago
I bore a son.
Left the hospital early
To share my mother's fun -
a Master's Degree at sixty-one. So proud was I!
And she pleased as could be,
The first one in her clan
To earn a high degree. Despite some credits here and there,
I feared I'd never see
The goal that I had set for myself -
Bachelor of Theology. At sixty-nine
I got mine!
