I felt like i had no one
and then you just appeared
to save me from my mind
of which i was in fear
My mother, my father, gone
i thought my life was ended
never would i find you
i was not yet to live it
Then you came to me
with love felt through your eyes
said, 'child, your life has just begun'
be sure to end the lies
And so i did just as you said
and learned how not to hate
i learned how in my heart
how to appreciate
So now today im happy
today i feel a love
a feeling never felt before
the feeling from above.
This poem has a nice feeling. I would leave the target of your gratitude less explicit. One of the beautiful things about poetry is that in its ambiguities it IMPLIES more than it actually says. Thus poetry is a higher form of expression, saying more than mere words. If you have to literally say what you are talking about the poem is lacking. However the good news is. You didn't need to. This poem got the message across prior to 'Thank you God...' I would dropp that line.
