A Fellow From Hibernia Poem by Francis Duggan

A Fellow From Hibernia

A fellow from Hibernia's shore is all I'll ever be
From that old Land far north of here in the Atlantic sea
I've not been there for twenty one years in time a lengthy span
The babe back then has come of age and is now a full blown man
A fellow from Hibernia a green and ancient Land
Those who do not know her history will never understand
The suffering of her people in decades long gone by
Great courage in adversity of them none should deny
Her green, white and gold colours I never once did wear
I am not a patriotic type though in that I am not rare
yet I do feel nostalgia for the old Land far away
The fields far inland from the coast where I first saw lamp of day
An old Land steeped in history of myth, legend and lore
A fellow from Hibernia I am and nothing more.
