A Figure Black Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

A Figure Black

Rating: 5.0

A fist to heavens.
Dripping rain.

Portal of delight
Yet the curtains of
Drizzling rain made
High wall of mist.

Eyes blind with beauty
It be Dawn!

I take it that A FIGURE BLACK is the speaker of the poem. He is caught in a painful dichotomy (aren't they all!) . The HEAVENS are A PORTAL OF DELIGHT, and the BEAUTY there, or perceived to be there, is blinding in its brilliance. But the rain and the mist block our view, our access, so the figure shakes his fist at those heavens for promising what they do not deliver. The dawn seems to bring some relief.
