A FRIEND IN NEED
Two women, one frail and falling
in the plump kind arms of the other.
A trusting glance at me
on this hard grey station bench.
“I’ll be back”.
She makes towards Marks.
Her friend, white-faced and speechless,
lolls next to me.
“Sip the water slowly, dear”;
a hen-night gone too far, I hear.
I fear for this pale girl.
Hope they make it home
safe tonight to Haslemere.
“When’s the wedding? ”
“Soon, soon...” Oh dear....
janice its superb the combo of the tracks signifying travel and transition and the hard bench the hard realities of life....the smattering of compassion excellent...very nice cheers
As Alison does so well, so do you, by being observant and crafting this snippet of life into a poem. We women are good at sticking together in times of need. 10 Karin Anderson
Poems seem to 'fall out of the air' when the poet is on her toes. This little slice of life would have passed many an observer by. Thankfully, you were there with your compassion and your skillful pen - to record it for us all. Excellent poem. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I echo others' comments. A real lesson in how a poem can emerge from a fairly commonplace incident. Great stuff.
