A Generation So Beat Down Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

A Generation So Beat Down

Connectivity; so connected
And yet, of inter-generations, so disconnected
Freedom; so carefree
And yet, of social vices, our young, so entrapped
Unity; United Nations, the evidence
Yet, of world peace, a pipe dream
Human rights; the buzz phrase
Yet, of traditional and conservative thought, many are 'cancelled'
Slavery; an anathema
Yet, of slave mentality, so enslaved
Happiness and joy; so publicly evidenced
Yet, of loneliness, our young die
The elderly, alone, they die
Affluence; a glistening plenty
Yet, of famine, millions die daily
Knowledge; very knowledgeable
Yet, of the basic tenets of life, a dreadful lack
Morality; so liberal and progressive
Yet, of the sanctity of life, no respect
Science; so advanced
Yet, of the basic simple biology, so perverted
A generation so free;
Free even from our common selves!
