A great ice-cream shop Poem by Flavio Santi

A great ice-cream shop

A great ice-cream shop
emerges inside me
with tables wrapped
in colorful cellophane
the smell of rennet
the slavery of sorbet at all hours:
but the best I dig it out for myself
in the vein with a metal spoon,
I feel tenderness
softness the more I press
downwards, I feel that
I will never satisfy my hunger
with its helpings.
