A Great Relief Poem by Gary James Smith

A Great Relief

A Great Relief

A great relief came over my soul
The day I trusted in Jesus Christ
The burden of... my sin was gone
Because of His great Sacrifice
I looked to the Lamb of God and lived
No greater name than God the Son
The Lord Jesus Christ...O Hallelujah!
Faith's finished work...my Salvation!

It's a memory...I can't erase it
When my prayer brought liberty
I confessed that I was a sinner
And asked the Lord to live in me
His Holy Spirit heard my heart cry
And witnessed to my spirit that day
Hallelujah... I was born again!
O praise God...what a happy day!

I knew right well my life was different
There was a new man inside of me
A wholesome feeling...I can't explain it
But I was changed...because of Calvary
Don't let sin keep you harnessed
To the troughs of worldly desire
For this old world will pass away
You must live for something Higher!

Seek ye the Lord while He may be found
For friend the Lord is seeking for you
Search for Him with all of your heart
And that meeting place will ensue
There's not a Friend like the lowly Jesus
Who can forgive you...of all of your sin
Repentance is the gate way to Heaven
Today...today! ...put your trust in Him...

Hallelujah what a Saviour!
