A Horrendous Moment! Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

A Horrendous Moment!

Rating: 5.0

It was a shocking throw, out ‘o bed
in the thick of night, so mad
for a roar and a blast
so deafening and horrifying

Ha.... ha... ha.... Ho... ho.... ho....
Hi..... hi...hi....Hu....hu...huuuuuuu...
Terrifying, mind smothering, it was
Sounded like from the yard
of graves, laid- heroes lying

Amidst a hurricane, lightening and thundering
heard like a human voice, in growling tone.......
Hey... You SOB cowards, .... Hu....hu...huu
shameless idiots, you keep howling ‘n growling
day in day out, in greed for power...
e....h? Hu....hu...huuuuuuu.......!

You cynics have forgotten, so very quickly
your yesterday, so horrendous and deadly
Live as if you are born an hour ago, merrily!
You've forgotten why we let out our breath,
so young, for the nation and mother land

You naked celluloid heroes of today
were shivering and trembling then in fear
Now keep fighting ‘n clamoring
for glamour and credit for
the arrested bloodshed

Shame! Shame, for you cowards!
For having to share the air so precious
and die for your sake, on a land where
you ruts too have been born in
Ha.. ha.. ho..ho.. huuuuuuuuuu.........!
What a nightmare, it was!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Terrorism, our country fought against for over three decades, and it's atrocities on innocent civilians from babies inside wombs to aged, are no more. Many leaders who attempted to deal with terrorism, failed miserably. Only one succeeded it six years ago. Many lives were lost to the nation before that. All had to live in tension.Even the daily meal was taken in fear. No two parents traveled in the same vehicle together, lest both get killed at the same time. Such was the situation before. Now people live in total freedom. Yet, sad to say, some have forgotten this, and another sector attempt deliberately to forget what it was like before. All of them try to under rate what those heroes did to salvage the country from terrorism. My poem is a knock on their heads.

I was immediately drawn in and then felt a need to know more about the story behind such an inspired writing.

Well, our country fought a terrorist war for over 3 decades. Many leaders miserably failed in dealing with terrorist until one leader accepted the challenge. He handled everything systematically and put an end to the war 8 years back. before that bombs were blasting almost every where killing every one from babies in wombs to aged. No person was in peace, Even the daily meal was taken in a worried mind. No two parents of a family traveled in the same vehicle, lest both get killed at the same time. Now the country is totally freed, but unfortunately some do not remember this past. I just needed to give a knock on such people's heads. Thanks ES or your comment. and interest.
