A Leader Amongst Leaders Poem by Jason Doyle

A Leader Amongst Leaders

On a cold morning in January
I see him there
With a natural calm
Commanding the Square.
A frame taut with confidence and Intelligence.
One with no need of forced countenance
Yet one unwavering
Purpose.

I see the low sun catch his breath and ignite it golden
His stretching shadow itself shadows his inspiration.
For although untested in battle
He has beaten battles all his life.
From wars within him to wars without
The principle remains
The bull shall charge again
And again.

But why does this make him a Leader amongst Leaders?
It cannot but make him one.
When the others tire his second self
Generated wind lifts them and him.
Others are not light to carry
But lifting them is for him
As it is with the tides.
A natural Force.
