A Letter To My New Friend Poem by Benjamin Debrah

A Letter To My New Friend

From afar, you can spell
Look at me, you can tell
The perfume I'm wearing, you couldn't smell
The flies are chasing, they like me well

I don't care about dignity
I need a mattress
I don't believe in security
Talk about these others

Tell me where I can find food
Show me where I can sleep like wood
Show me where I can spend one night
One night in peace and no mosquito bite

Tell me you can get me slippers
And my eyes will light up as you
I don't need any sneakers
I have no fancy for shoes

I also need one t-shirt
The one I'm wearing is torn
God bless you for the mosquito net
I'll try and find a place warm

I don't see what you see
I don't know A from C
The recession means nothing to me
The election doesn't mean I'm free

All I want is something for bread
That is why I've come holding your leg
I know you are kind
I also know you wouldn't mind
