A LOOK AT LIFE-90
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

WHAT DO I NEED?

I often ask me
What do I need from life?
Pelf, power, appreciation
Love, relationship and recognition
Or something else I do not know?
I have had all these to an extent
In fact, I have seen both extremes
Poverty and affluence
Success and failure
Love and betrayal
Happiness and sorrow
Recognition and oblivion
Am I happy with all these?
I am not convinced
What I feel is
I have enjoyed and endured all these
Only for a period of time
Time and again I got involved
Time and again I lost interest
Is that what life is?
Losing interest in the game
Again and again.
Then what I require from life?
Is it to find the real me
My real interest
Which I have forgotten long since
The simple and innocent me
With a throbbing heart and unalloyed mind
Who lived with love and passion
With petty wishes and trifling demands
Paper boats, fairies and ghosts
Evening bells and morning chants
Offering nothing but love and
Simplicity at the feet of God

Or to seek the source
To identify with it
Where happiness never ends
Where beauty never fades
Love and relationship at its fulfilling best
From the lips smile never vanishes
Where there is perennial spring
The primordial sound the divine ong
Celestial music moving across the spine
Divinity unfolding in body and mind.
