A Loving Advantage Poem by Jack Buck

A Loving Advantage

in the far corner the crowd of students in unison rise in architectural grandeur
bent forward in ready stance
arms stretched towards the field in ritual
my eyes follow watching the movement of the teams
I believe everywhere in the world people are wearing layers underneath jackets
the other team that drove up from Iowa doesn't stand a chance
just look at us we have mothers and fathers
taking their sons and daughters to their first game on our side
