As I turned to look behind me
what to my surprise
there upon my coattails
were my dreams found in demise
A sad and sullen remnant
of the memories that remained
those I'd left behind me
though no yardage did I gain
And so I turn to finally face
a past that'd come to call
and place me within its shadow
as it pinned me to the wall
So to now accuse me
of a life lived in regret
for all the times I've been in my life
unforgiven, let us not forget
And so the sadness slowly seeps
how thoroughly it pervades
grounded in places oh so deep
that it's shadow never fades
