A New Beginning Poem by Desmond Okon

A New Beginning

We had our hopes high in time past,
Time ran fast.
A few lived it, relishing each second,
But not all could see their visions to reckon.

Yet, time moved swiftly.
For slow feet, too briskly!
Only the brave and keen matched its pace,
With resolutions and dreams laced with grace.

Time after time,
The wise swooned to retrospective extermination of the mind.
With thoughts of success so esteemed on high,
But when failure smiles, sour it is like lime.

While the made rejoiced,
For achievements in time past.
We, from the hand of reproach, recoiled,
As dearth laughed on us last.

Now that time is dead and gone,
We hope for a new beginning.
For it has come to stay with hopes for long,
New prospects are born for a new beginning.
