When last iron- ribbed shell booms out
Obliterating things most fair;
When last bullet has smitten
The riddled bodies like mown tare;
In heaps and smoked pipes the towns lie,
In deadly earnest razed splinters fly,
A new age a new time will come by;
Not when heart by beauty is drawn,
Not when feet glide over strewn petals,
Not when lustre of gems lovingly pulls
Or when man struts in flashy apparels
But with stone, iron, cement our soul is akin
Can we expect of a geniality in scene.
