A Poem By Vasanthadheepan

(20)

Covering concealing
Carefully looking front and back
Fear-stricken
As if carrying load unbearable
The young girl walks on
Please don't look at her.
Keep your eyes shut - won't you
Why so - wonder not
Imagining her attires to be ablaze
in droplets of moist red
She moves ahead
fearing the prospect
of eyes and mouths
metamorphosing into dogs
pursuing her in a hot chase.

As the abandoned lone footwear
As the single strand of feather wandering
As a meteor
As a forest-shrine visited by none
As a ruined fort filled with the stench of bats-dung
As a boat without sails
As railroads laid anew yet to function
waiting for trains
As the hungry stork searching for fish in vain
in the dry river terrain
As the tree counting the dropping leaves
As a pilgrim of the soul in search of
the aesthetics of Eternity
chanting prayer to that end
and journeying ahead
So am I
in the dream supreme
of Love thine.
