A Poem For Matthew Poem by Dona Lil

A Poem For Matthew

Rating: 5.0

Sitting alone, starin’ at your desk
Wondering if you’re okay and at your best
With just one snap and a wink
Now it seems, times are bleak
Things will never be the same again, that I know
Coz you’re the only one who can put up a show

I will miss your smell
I will miss your smile
I will miss your sneeze
And your “big round eyes”

I will miss your voice
I will miss your noise
I will miss your grumpiness
And your sarcasm.

I will miss your bullying
I will miss your swearing
I will miss you and everything in between.

So now it comes to the hardest part
Where I have to hug you goodbye
And go back to start
As these words were spoken
My poor heart is broken
But as they say “show must go on”
And that pretty face I have to put on.

As I digest reality – it is morphed
Into illustrations of beauty and hope
You deserve joy and glee like everyone else
So put all that sad feelings up on the shelf
Smile, have fun and enjoy the ride
For soon I know you will turn the tide
You’re free to fly with an open heart
Now make your way to a brand new start.

A very touching poem despite all the open mindedness and rationale expressed in the content.10
