A Poem For Miss Hamilton Poem by William Jackson

A Poem For Miss Hamilton

You are altogether lovely,
An undiscovered scarlet orchid,
A shimmering dewdropp in the tearless desert,
A dropp of fresh water in an ocean of brine.

You are the ever-present beauty,
The cricket's unheard song.
A red currant ready to be savored,
The prize overlooked by the unimaginative.

Stand in the sunlight, confident of your magnificence.
Soon men will reel under your spell.
Each will stagger in a stupor.
All will wish they knew intoxicating you.

Then you will laugh.
Like a child plucking dandelions,
You will make men dance upon the wind.
Dashing their hearts, you will have the pick of any.
