A Pure-Hearted Child Poem by Mohammad Younus

A Pure-Hearted Child

A pure-hearted child,
With innocence untamed,
Entered the mosque,
His soul unashamed.

He prostrated in prayer,
A humble, gentle form,
Lingering a little longer,
In the sanctuary, warm.

Whispering softly,
Words only he could hear,
Speaking to someone unseen,
Yet ever so near.

Who could it be?
Let's ask the child,
As he rises from his prayer,
Eyes wide and mild:

'To whom were you speaking,
Pouring out your heart,
In that sacred moment,
Where heaven and earth impart? '

With a radiant face,
The child replied,
A smile so pure,
It could not hide:

'I heard Gabriel,
His voice so clear,
A melody of guidance,
I held it dear.'

'I spoke with the Prophet,
His wisdom profound,
In his presence,
My soul was unbound.'

'I saw God smiling at me,
A light so divine,
In that moment,
I knew He was mine.'

'Now, I will go nowhere else,
For here I belong,
I will only listen
To God's sweet song.'

'I looked towards the sky,
Through the window of this world,
And saw the heavens unfurled.'

'If I remain forever
In God's loving embrace,
Will you be angry with me?
Will you turn your face? '

'This is far better
Than the world's fleeting charms,
The light of the Divine
Shields me from harm.'

'The stars reached down to me,
Their brilliance so bright,
Showering me with light,
In the stillness of night.'

'I saw the luminous souls,
Those whom God loves,
And who love Him in return,
Like gentle doves.'

'I will ride the Buraq,
And ascend to the skies,
To where the eternal
And the infinite lies.'

'But there is one thing
I do not understand—
Is God only for Muslims?
Or for every woman and man? '

'Does He speak in Arabic,
Or in tongues unknown?
Is His love for Hindus,
Christians, and Jews shown? '

Oh, how beautiful is
A child's innocent vision of God!
Unburdened by dogma,
His heart beats unflawed.

For in his pure heart,
God's truth is revealed,
A love that is boundless,
A bond never sealed.

Let us learn from the child,
Whose faith is so true,
That God is for all,
And His love is for you.
