RIC BASTASA

A Question... - Poem by RIC BASTASA

is that old Hungarian
for mere citizenship
or for love?
for a moment or
for eternity?
do you know really
what eternity is?
i know citizenship
i have known love
but eternity
is a chasm
between too much
familiarity and
too much
looking at the past
it is untrue
and yet you utter it
how come?
are you not bothered
by the coldness
of a promise?
the lightness of
assurances?
the falsity of
words?
the fear of the
void?
are you not at all
human to
consider that something
must at least
be for a while
too uncertain
because it is garnished
with so much
truth that
we cannot bear
anymore?
