A Request Poem by Lloyd Savage

A Request

Oh parents hold your little ones
Hold them meek and mild;
For you never know when it is
You'ld lose your only little child.

A special gift from God
Is what these children are;
For you'll never know when,
He could cross this sod
And turn them into stars! !

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I put this poem in a book I penned of poems and issued the first copy to a lovely lady who let's just say was in touch with the Divine one upstairs. Little did I know of all the 61 poems in that book she would be killed in an accident with her two daughters later tragicly. None of the three were wearing a seatbelt and just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The auto accident was not in the least their fault. The most tragic thing about this is her husband was a state trooper at the time and surely they knew they should have been wearing seatbelts. Perhaps this poem is now to remind us all how delicate our children's lives need be protected and
just how fast they can be taken away.
I lost my son at 31 yrs of age due to a motorcycle accident in Wetumpka, OK. Despite his being a pro rider, it did not prevent another driver from running over him. I leave this poem with my opinion motorcycles are dangerous for these reasons be careful if you ride one. And for an afterthought I doubt I ever got to spend over 3 hours with him in his adult life after he was taken from me at age 3 and I never saw him again until he was 18.
