A Rhythm Stirs, Soft But Sure— Poem by Mohammad Younus

A Rhythm Stirs, Soft But Sure—

A rhythm stirs, soft but sure—
I feel it pulling, unfamiliar yet sweet—
sweeter than songs
I once knew in heaven.
This music, all-encompassing—
I want nothing in its stead.
It renews me, like rain on parched earth.
A voice—new, mellow, vibrant—
whispers of spring in the heart of summer.

The gorgeous voice I breathe in
draws me deeper into beauty.
Is it the scent of my beloved's presence
I follow as I listen,
or the dream of my beloved's arrival
in the vast chamber of my heart?
I can no longer tell, nor do I deserve to know.

Love, not death—Life, not hate—
It is life that burns too bright,
and love that never ends;
not a dim flickering flame—
facing the wind's wrath—
but like the evening star, guiding,
onward and onward—
I watch the moon shine overhead,
and I fly to it—I, a Music Lover—
enjoy hearing music in the night's embrace—
beneath the twinkling stars.
