A Seagull's Cry Poem by Paul Reed

A Seagull's Cry

You awoke me from slumber
At four o'clock this morning
With your wild call of freedom
Which sliced the air
And reached my soul;
Just one cry, no more,
All the greater for it's lonely piercing
Of the gathered gloom;
And it told me a truth
That we are on this earth together,
You and I,
No different.
And you brought me reassurance
And calmed me
From all of my invented cares.
Yes, lonely seagull,
We share the world.
