A Small Fish Poem by J.B. LeBuert

A Small Fish

Rating: 2.9

Just a small fish in an expanding universe
Something that I can't even change or reverse
No school to swim with, ever alone
A bleak future, I wish I'd have known

Will I end up someone else's bait
A poor destiny, if this is my fate
Having to hide to stay alive
Makes me wonder, if I want to survive

Like the others, I eat someone smaller
Let those beware of a gentleman caller
I just don't see the reason for this
Something out there is truly amiss

Am I destined to a cruel outcome
Just like the other slimy pond scum
Or will I become a lovely meal
After I'm scaled and cannot feel

The answer to these questions most certainly are
Above my ken, and beyond my knowledge, by far
The one thing that I most certainly know
Until the end, I must go with the flow
